Meet Vanessa Kelly, our founder and a passionate artist with over 10 years of experience. A scientist and makeup formulator by profession, she creatively channels her love for color into everything she does. Her deep appreciation for Black culture is reflected in her love for dance, music, and art, celebrating the richness and vibrancy of its expressions. Vanessa has hosted numerous events where she teaches drawing and painting, showcasing her own artwork along the way. With a commitment to empowering others, embracing diversity, and fostering a sense of community, she aspires to spark joy in the act of creation.
Just the Beginning
Expressions Center for Black Art was born from the belief that Long Island deserves a vibrant platform to celebrate its diverse heritage. Too often, residents find themselves traveling to the city or Brooklyn for events that resonate with their identity, highlighting a pressing need for accessibility. Our mission is to uplift Black artists and the arts community right here on Long Island, fostering an environment where we can learn and grow together. As we embark on fundraising through smaller events, our ultimate is to secure a dedicated space that will enhance our ability to serve and showcase the rich tapestry of our culture.
